Step back in time to a place of humble
beginnings. WELCOME TO GREENVILLE, a small Southern town originally
known as Sandy Ford. When the railroad came through from
Jacksonville to Pensacola the town became known as Station Five as
it was the fifth stop on the line from Jacksonville. When the War between the States broke out, the Confederate commissary asked that a proper name be given to the town. That's when Mrs. U.M. Roberts, a member of a group of ladies who would get together and knit socks and other items to mail to their soldiers, suggested that the town be called Greenville after her old home in South Carolina. And the rest, as they say, is history. Like so many other American towns of similar size, Greenville is a peaceful and friendly community. Family reunions, civic activities, and playtimes for children all take place in a safe and secure atmosphere in Haffye Hayes Park in the center or our hamlet. The Haffye Hays Park is located in the center of Greenville. It is home to the Childrens Park, picnic facilities, and a walking track which encircles the lake. The park is also home to the celebration of Country Christmas each December. The lake itself transports you to an era of Southern charm and tranquility. The beauty of the lake is enhanced as the lotus bloom opens and fills the air with its sweet perfume during the summer months. Two of our greatest assets are our way of life and our residents. To live in Greenville is to walk down the street and know passersby even as you are known. |
